'HUIS CLOS 2011' – CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Open to dance professionals and emerging artists

Fleur d'asphalte is inviting dancers, actors, musicians and other performance artists who are interested in working with movement to submit their application for our second edition of Huis Clos, a short, intense, and out of the ordinary performance laboratory.

Participating in the Huis Clos is a way to experiment with contemporary dance through a unique creation process, where eight individual artists will be selected to create a collective work. For three days, the participants will be in a closed retreat at studio Fleur d’asphalte. The final choreography will be presented to the public at the end of the retreat, and the artists will be able to exchange with the public about the work and the process leading to the work.

The Huis Clos will take place from October 7th to 9th 2011 at the Fleur d’asphalte studio. The arrival time on Friday will be determined according to the availability of the participants.

Conditions and prerequisites:
The Huis Clos is an intense collective experience that will last 50 or so hours. This means that in addition to creating a new choreography, you will share your meals and a common rest/sleeping area with the other artists. You must commit yourself to stay with the group for the entire duration of the production process and actively participate to its realization.

There are no grants supporting this project, and while Fleur d’asphalte is proud to host this intensive creation residence free of charge, participants are asked to cover their own food costs.

Tickets sales for the presentation will be used to cover a portion of the expenses incurred by Fleur d’asphalte in organizing and presenting this event.

Candidates will be contacted within two weeks of the application deadline. You may be required to do an audition, solo or in group. Be ready!
