Menka Nagrani

Multidisciplined artist, Menka Nagrani completed a 'DEC' in dance at Drummondville Cégep and her bachelor in cultural life and research at UQAM and studied classical piano for 15 years. Menka acquired training in contemporary dance and jig and still continues to deepen her knowlege in these areas. She is also interested in theatre and singing. She is dances in the shows Saudade by Marjolayne Auger and Chaises by Marie-Soleil Pilette.
Menka's implication as a dance teacher for people with mental deficiencies at the Centre d'art Les Muses since 1999 has led her to bring these people out of their shells and into the world. She did an exploratory tour in Europe of certain companies putting handicapped people on stage and created some shows for the Créahm-Provence where she stayed for half a year.
Menka returned to build Les Productions des Pieds des Mains in 2004, intending to integrate some marginalized people in her creations. Her aim was to foster a spirit of social and artistic questioning. Her shows, Les Leçons, L'Ombre and Le Temps des Marguerites....à la folie ou pas du tout! were performed more than 30 times in Montreal (Théâtre Lachapelle, Tangente, Maisons de la culture...) as in Belgium and Japan. Menka's last creation was ranked amongst the top five shows of dance-theatre of 2007 by The Globe & Mail.
